The Canadian Armed Forces Taekwondo team is a diverse team of elite women and men who represent Canada and the military at championships around the world. The small team of soldiers and sailors has members who hold world and national rankings, no small feat considering the international following this martial art has.

The success of the team begins with their leader and coach, Grand Master Young Su Choung, who coaches the team out of his academy in Toronto. The discipline and support he provides to this team is second to none and his dedication shows at every competition he attends. I know all athletes of the CAF Taekwondo team are thankful for his support and guidance.

There are obvious linkages between military service and athletics. Physical fitness, sportsmanship, dedication, and commitment are a few words that come to mind when I think of the overlap. I have had many occasions to work with and observe our soldiers, sailors, and aviators on operations and exercises at home and abroad. I have also had the chance to watch our Taekwondo team kick their way to the top of the podium and the excellence exhibited by all never ceases to inspire me.

As the Taekwondo team grows and evolves, losing some great members while adding new, fresh faces to the mix, there can be no doubt that they will continue to be excellent ambassadors for our country and the Canadian Armed Forces.
