Playcare Program and Care Guidelines

Mother dropping off son at daycare

Sign In/Sign Out

Please sign your child in upon arrival and out before leaving. The same person who signs your child in must sign them out. Once you have dropped off your child, we ask you not to re-enter the room unless you have been paged. This policy will help relieve any anxiety they may have. When Child Care hours have ended, please arrive promptly to pick up your child(ren).

Parents who are late will be given a warning, and a second time they will no longer be eligible for the program. PSP will call the Military Police if parents fail to show up, do not respond to calls, or arrive intoxicated.

The service is funded by Military Personnel Command and is a pilot to evaluate feasibility. Each time you use the service, you must scan a QR code a complete a 5-question check in.

Staying Healthy

If a child appears ill, they will not be admitted into Child Care. You will be asked to provide a doctor’s note for allergies or symptoms that could be mistaken for an illness.

If your child develops symptoms of ill health while in our care, we will contact you to arrange to pick up your child.

Members whose children carry an Epipen are asked to complete a special waiver form. The form grants the childcare supervisor and the childcare workers permission to administer the Epipen if required.

What can we bring?

Please label all belongings, diaper bags, and bottles with a permanent marker. Children may bring a water bottle with water. Children are not allowed to bring toys from home, including phones or tablets. This a great time to experience unplugged play time!

If your child is of walking age, make sure he or she has a pair of shoes to wear while in childcare. Should there ever be an emergency and we have to evacuate the building, it is very important that all of the children have shoes.

Care

Children must be fully dressed at all times, including socks. Staff cannot assist children in the bathroom or with potty training. Parents may be called if a child needs to be changed, fed, given medication, or is crying excessively.

Due to legislative requirements that differentiate childminding and licensed daycare, children should be awake and ready to play. Staff can engage children in quiet time, but our facilities need to be adequately set up for napping.

PSP will not provide food, and due to the drop in nature of the program, there is no defined snack time. To circumvent food allergens and potential conflicts, please do not pack snacks and avoid having your child come hungry.

No violence allowed

Children will be sent home for the following: foul and inappropriate language, fighting, inappropriate conduct, or any behavior that can be deemed violent or harmful to others.

If a child bites once, they will be given a warning, and parents will be asked to pick them up immediately. If a child bites a second time, they will be suspended and only welcome back once they pass the biting phase. If they exhibit biting behavior when they return, they will be suspended for a minimum of six months.

Child Protection

The safety, rights and well-being of children we serve are at the core of our daily programs. We nurture supportive relationships with children while balancing and encouraging appropriate boundaries. Our organization is committed to ensuring that all children are protected and safe.

PSP have developed the Child Protection Code of Conduct to guide our employees/ volunteers in their interactions with children. A Code of Conduct is an integral part of creating safe environments for children. The Code of Conduct intends to guide our staff/volunteers in developing healthy relationships with the children involved in recreation programs delivered by our organization and to model appropriate boundaries for children.

All staff, volunteers and students working at licensed child care centres must have a criminal reference check, including vulnerable sector screening, that they must update every five years.
